Choose The Right Vanity For Your Bathroom

The bathroom vanity is perhaps one of the main features of any bathroom. It’s often the fixture that is placed as a focal point in the bathroom and acts as both a functional and stylish addition in the space. However, anyone who has renovated or built a house before knows that there are endless options when it comes to choosing a bathroom vanity. From the different vanity sizes available to the endless choice of cabinet finishes, we understand that sometimes choosing a bathroom vanity is no easy feat. Below, we share some of the tips and tricks we’ve learned when it comes to choosing the right vanity for your bathroom.

1. Define How Many People Will Be Using The Bathroom

So often when people choose their bathroom vanity, they don’t consider the amount of people that are actually going to be using it. There’s no point selecting a 600mm wide vanity if you are a large family and need maximum storage for bathroom supplies (parents with young kids will sure attest to that). On the other hand, if you’re designing a powder room or smaller bathroom, it’s safe to say that there will be fewer people using the space so opting for a smaller vanity is perfectly fine in that case and is recommended. However, if space permits, we recommend choosing a vanity that is going to hold a lot of storage as you really can never have enough storage space when it comes to your bathroom

“It’s important to define who is using the space and how many people. For example, if you are a couple, you might want to select a double bowl configuration. For a family bathroom, you might want to choose a twin or floor mount vanity for max storage, or our Glacier Hamper Vanity or Tallboy for easily organizing dirty clothes”

2. Placement Is Key

If there is one piece of advice we would offer when it comes to choosing your bathroom vanity it would be to carefully consider the placement of your vanity. As mentioned above, the bathroom vanity is often the focal point of the whole room. Therefore, and if possible, we recommend you place the vanity in a position that is prominent and can be seen immediately upon entry (after all, there is no point investing in a beautiful vanity and putting it behind a corner or door where it can’t be easily seen). It’s also important to consider the functionality of the space when you’re thinking about the placement of your vanity. If you’re not wanting to move any plumbing, you will need to keep the vanity in the same position as your existing vanity. Also, make sure that the surrounding areas are accessible for cleaning and that your bathroom door doesn’t knock on the vanity when it swings open.

3. Consider What Basin You’d Like

You can’t have a bathroom vanity without a basin. When selecting your vanity, consider if you’d like a top-mounted basin (a basin that sits above the bench) or an under-counter basin (a basin that is mounted to the underside of the benchtop). If you want to make a design statement then choose a benchtop and above-counter basin. Another great choice to consider is a molded benchtop with an integrated basin for ease of cleaning. Often when you are ordering your vanity you will need to specify the type of basin you’d like so you must consider this when deciding on your bathroom vanity (designer tip – this will also affect the height of your bathroom vanity so make note of this when specifying your vanity height).

4. Floor Mounted Vanity vs Floating Vanity

If you have a tight or small bathroom then you’re better off choosing a vanity that is floating as it will give the illusion of a larger space. However, with wall-hung vanities be aware that you will lose valuable storage space. If storage is important to you, opting for a floor-mounted vanity is the best decision as you will have maximum storage space (yes, we know we talk about storage a lot, but you’ll thank us later as storage is key when it comes to designing a functional home).

The good news when it comes to bathroom vanities is there are so many different configurations and color options available to suit any bathroom size and style. Whether you have a large, luxurious bathroom or a smaller, cute, and petite bathroom, we’re sure you’ll find a bathroom vanity that fits your space and needs perfectly amongst our vast range of bathroom vanity options available
